22 Pieces of ME
For years, I spent my life being many things to many people — mother, educator, encourager, survivor, believer, creative, protector, and provider — while slowly learning how to still make space for myself in the middle of it all.
22 Pieces of ME was born from those moments.
This collection is more than poetry. It is a journey through womanhood, heartbreak, healing, faith, grief, laughter, exhaustion, love, motherhood, disappointment, rediscovery, and purpose. Every piece represents a different layer of who I am — not just as a writer or performer, but as a woman still evolving in real time.
Some pieces will make you laugh. Others may challenge you, comfort you, or leave you sitting in silence reflecting on your own story. Through spoken word, storytelling, humor, raw honesty, and emotional transparency, 22 Pieces of ME explores what it means to carry pain gracefully while still choosing to dream.
This project was created for the people who feel deeply.
For the people still healing.
For the strong ones who secretly get tired too.
For the dreamers who refuse to quit.
Inspired by my life experiences, faith, family, students, relationships, and personal battles, 22 Pieces of ME serves as both a mirror and a reminder:
even broken pieces still create beautiful stories.
This is not just my story.
Somewhere within these 22 pieces… you may discover parts of yourself too.

The ME Choice: Finding ME
I was well on my way to freedom — chasing my lifelong dream of becoming a writer, director, and actress — before I unexpectedly found myself walking back into the 7th and 8th grade halls of Labadieville Middle School after 32 years. Only this time, I returned as a 7th Grade ELA teacher.
As memories came rushing back like a flood, something inside of me shifted.
I vividly remembered being the shy, timid new girl walking those same halls at the awkward ages of 12–14. I had a sense of who I was, but I didn’t fully know myself yet. I knew I had gifts, creativity, and purpose, but I was still discovering what all of that truly meant.
It was in those very hallways that I slowly became… ME.
While completing my first and second books, The ME Choice: Choosing ME, my students — along with my younger self — inspired me to pause and create something for those who are still searching for themselves.
The ME Choice: Finding ME is for anyone who has yet to discover who they are, and for those who may have forgotten and need help rediscovering themselves again.
Through a 25-day self-exploration journey, readers discover themselves through the five senses — hearing, touch, smell, taste, and sight — in the same order we first experienced them entering the world. I call this “The Birth Order.”
Part journal, part storytelling experience, The ME Choice is designed to help readers reflect, heal, grow, and ultimately discover who they truly are.
Now let’s find “ME”… by choosing ME.
I’m so proud of you Tawanna for staying true to your gifts (playwright, now a book). You must never stop dreaming. I’m your #1 Fan.
